We at Curtin Primary acknowledge the Ngunnawal people, past, present and future.

We would like to thank the traditional custodians for nurturing this precious land where we live, learn and play.

We promise to protect plants, animals, earth, water and sky and care for everyone in our community.

Firstly, a HUGE thank you to our P & C, school community, staff and students for another wonderful Twilight Fair. It is always staggering to see how many people come to school to participate and enjoy the yummy food, buy some bargains at the white elephant and books stalls, purchase some hand made products and of course, go on the fantastic rides. It is a major fund-raising initiative for our school and the staff and students would like to formally acknowledge all the tireless work our P & C does to support our school.

This week the teachers are busy writing end of year reports for all our students. Therefore, we will have several relief teachers each day covering teachers. We also have a few teachers on leave or who are sick. Whilst we do our best to replace all our teachers, this is not always possible and there may be some split classes. When classes are split, we do our best to keep them in year levels close to their own and to provide them with meaningful work.

Next week we have our second transition visits for 2020 Preschool and Kindergarten students on Tuesday, and our Kindergarten 2020 information night on Monday night from 5:30-6:30pm in the Kindergarten room. We look forward to seeing all our 2020 Kindergarten parents there.

Thank you to all of the parents who are supporting the pick up arrangements. 

Please share with any carers who will be picking children up from the front carpark eg. relatives, nannies.

With the bell going at 3pm, the students aren't ready until 3.05pm, so feel free to delay your pickup time until after then.

It would also be helpful if you have your name in large letters on your passenger visor. This way, we can have your children ready for you.

Please be patient as we implement this plan. 

Curtin Primary School - Pick Up Traffic Arrangements

The school has developed a safer and more structured way to deal with the traffic within the school grounds at pick up time.

• Between 2:55pm – 3:15pm, there is to be no car movement in or out of the parking spaces in the front car park.  This is to ensure that there can be no incident with reversing into students or other cars.
•  If you wish to physically collect your children from school, it will be necessary to park on the street or surrounding streets in designated parking areas and walk to the playground.
• We would like to ask all families to please write their family surname in big letters and attach it to your car’s visor. When entering into the carpark please pull the visor down so that staff can identify your children to get them ready for pickup.
• School pick up areas will be designated with orange cones to guide cars into these areas.

The following rules apply:

1.       Children will only be able to board a car if it is stopped at the designated spot (see map).

2.       Cars waiting will form a single line behind each other.

3.       At school pick up time, the car lines will commence at 3:02pm.

4.       If a car enters the pick-up zone and their children aren’t there, they will be asked to do a circuit of Theodore Street and rejoin the line (see map).

5.       Children will be supervised until 3:15pm.

6.       There will be absolutely no parking or waiting in pick up zones.

7.       If you park in the front carpark before 2:55pm you will have to wait until 3:15pm to leave.

8.       Staff will be on duty to assist with supervision and flow of traffic.

9.       Car pooling and walking clubs are encouraged.

In following this routine, we are providing a safer environment for those families wishing to pick up without leaving their cars.  It is suggested that when it comes to pick up time, you simply arrive at the school a little later to ensure your children have had time to get to the pickup point.

From 3:15pm any students remaining will be brought to the front office area and parents will be rung.

The back carpark will remain closed to parent parking.

The canteen is open from 8.45am until 1.45pm. If you have any canteen queries, Lizzy can be contacted on 6142 2581 during these hours.

A special thank you to the families that donated books to the Reading Mentor Program.

We have 12 books added to the collection. 

Thank you for your support of the Twilight Fair this year. It was a mammoth effort, but team work made it possible.  

Thank you to everyone who generously  gave donations in the lead up to the Fair, for helping to set up and pack down the stalls, for taking the time during the fair to volunteer on a stall (or two!) and to your families who looked after the kids while you were volunteering.

The twilight fair is run entirely by volunteers, the success of the fair wouldn't be possible without the dedication and support of parents, families, carers and friends. 

We are close to raising $20,000 for the P&C to spend in 2020 on some amazing equipment, special activities, events and resources for our school. If you would like to see the funds allocation in action, and be a part of it, please come along to the P&C meeting in Term 1 next year.

We are opening Ricky Stuart House for families, carers and service providers on Friday 22 November from 10am to 2pm.

Ricky Stuart House provides short-term accommodation for children aged 5 to 12 with disability. Ricky Stuart House is a six bedroom home which features a spacious outdoor area, a sensory room with a home away from home warm environment. Our aim is to ensure that each child’s stay is enjoyable and provides access to purposeful activity, community engagement and skills development. Individual supports are tailored to each child’s particular interests, strengths and abilities.

The Open Day will also feature other service providers for children with disability within the Canberra Community so come along and have a cuppa and a chat!

We accept bookings with a minimum stay of three hours and are open 52 weeks of the year. We are a registered NDIS provider.
